2018-2019 DVS PTA

This page is intended to be a quick overview of what Derry Village School PTA (DVS PTA) does as of 2018, and our goals for the future.  You may join the PTA, and find more specific information about us via the tabs on the left.  You can find contact information for the board members on the left, or for a less formal interaction, follow us on facebook.

Overview
DVS PTA is an affiliate of the NH and National Parent Teacher Associations.  As such, we are dedicated to enhancing the elementary experience for the students.  Each year we raise and spend around $20,000 however the direct financial aspects of the PTA are a much smaller component of our overall effort compared with the volunteer efforts of our parents and community.  While DVS PTA does organize some events to celebrate and thank school staff, the vast majority of our efforts are intended to directly benefiting students.

Participation
Join DVS' Google Calendar to keep up with upcoming events.
All parents are encouraged to join DVS PTA for $10 at dvspta.org/join.
        * Most meetings will be the 3rd Monday of the month
More importantly, parents are encouraged to volunteer with the DVS PTA.

Biggest Annual Events

DVS PTA has about 20 events each year.  The largest are:
  • Holiday Fair
    • This huge event accounts for about 30% of our annual revenues, and it's also a great experience for all
      • Vendors sell holiday crafts in the gym
      • Inexpensive carnival style games in another room
      • Beautifully decorated raffle baskets line the back hallway
      • Get your picture taken with Santa Claus
  • After School Enrichment
    • Students are given the opportunity to learn and/or do something non-academic after school for 3 weeks, 2 afternoons a week.
      • Mostly run by volunteers.
Clubs

DVS PTA sponsors a number of ongoing clubs and (positive focused) competitions for students:
  • Destination Imagination
  • Running Club
  • Invention Convention
  • Sunshine Math
  • STAR Reading
  • PTA Reflections
  • Spelling Bee
  •    ... and Many More

2017-2018 Highlights
DVS PTA paid for the hit local band, Recycled Percussion to present to the students at an assembly
DVS PTA paid $800 to each grade to help encourage more field trips.
DVS PTA bought an iPad for each 1st grade classroom to help with more individualization of instruction
DVS PTA again paid all expenses related to 5th grade celebration, including yearbooks, T-shirt, and an in-school Shamrock Cup fun competition

2018-2019 Goals
This year we will be "graduating" several outstanding long time volunteers.  Finding people to help shadow their roles this year so that they can seamlessly take over in 2019-2020 will be an important focus this year.
